Park signs in for history

EMERALD’S Nobelius Heritage Park will be preserved with a State Government cash injection.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato last week announced $8500 funding for interpretive signs to be installed at the park.
The funding is a part of the State Governments $1 million commitment to protecting and preserving Victoria’s diverse heritage.
Ms Lobato said the cash would also fund signs guiding visitors to the park from the centre of Emerald and Puffing Billy Railway station.
Ms Lobato said the park has a unique history which started in 1886 when Finland-born nurseryman Carl Axel Nobelius turned the land into a nursery.
He spent his weekends clearing the land and planting fruit and ornamental trees.
The nursery grew to 20 hectares and supplied customers across Australia and overseas.
Ms Lobato said she hopes the interpretative signs will mean visitors and the local community can connect with the park’s interesting history.
She said the signs would ensure the stories of the region’s heritage are not lost.
“I also hope the directional signs will encourage more people to visit the park,” she said.
