SETTING a world record will be one of the many highlights at this year’s Performing and Visual Arts in Emerald (PAVE) festival.
More than 400 people are needed to set a new Guinness Book World Record for the largest wobble board ensemble.
The festival, now in its second year, will run for 10 days from Friday, 13 April to Sunday, 22 April and will showcase the arts in Emerald.
The opening night, known as Black Friday, will be held at the Greenroom, Main Street, Emerald, from 8pm and will feature live music, Champagne, nibbles and an event preview will be available.
Most of the events during the festival are free or just cost a gold coin donation.
One of the aims of the festival is to provide arts related activities and entertainment for all age groups.
Setting a benchmark for the rest of the world, Emerald Primary School children are inviting residents and visitors to join in the challenge to make a Guinness Book World Record.
On Sunday, 15 April at Emerald Lake Park students are aiming to break the world record for the largest wobble board ensemble.
Those interested in becoming part of history should register for the ensemble by making a booking at Emerald Community House or by calling 5968 3881.
It costs $5 per family to enter the wobble board challenge, which covers the cost of the board. The board can be kept as a souvenir after the event.
PAVE chairman Dale Blair says the event is open to everyone who wants a chance at making history.
“We were originally looking at an ensemble of 250 but we have just heard that an attempt of 400 was recently made in California so we are waiting on confirmation of what was achieved there,” he said.
“The sound of 400 wobble boards echoing across the lake will be spectacular.”
This year a special program has also been organised for the residents of Emerald Glades retirement home.
Mr Blair said it was important to include activities for older people as many of the people at Emerald Glades have difficulty getting around.
Mr Blair said there are also a number of special events for young people such as the Amazing PAVE race and a short film festival.
The race is based on the popular TV show the Amazing Race and will be held on Saturday, 14 April.
Teams will compete over a designated course throughout Emerald and will need to complete specified arts related tasks at various checkpoints.
Some fantastic prizes will be on offer for the winning team and place getters including gym memberships and $500 worth of travel vouchers.
Entry for the race is $25 per team and registrations can now be made at the Emerald Community House in Main Street or by calling 5968 3881.
The PAVE festival will be something not to be missed by hills people or visitors to the area.
