Juniors put forward competitive face

IT WAS a morning of mixed fortunes for Monbulk’s junior cricketers on Saturday. Playing South Belgrave at Bayne’s Park, Monbulk’s Under 13 Gold team fared best with the bat, making a competitive 8 for 175.
Jake Evans continued his good form with an unbeaten 34. The Under 13 Maroons, however, struggled to make runs against good bowling and were all out for 59. In reply, Knox Gardens are 3/42.
The Under 15 boys also batted first but ran out of overs at 3 for 96 (Tom Hope 30 not out). Knox Gardens were 1/27 at stumps.
In the Under 17s, the firsts had Mulgrave 6 for 77 but let the visitors get away to finish at 7 for 169. The Under 17 2s made 71 (Michael Bednarz 24) and will struggle to contain Upwey
who were already 1 for 19 at the close of play.
In Friday’s twilight game at Bayne’s Park, Monbulk Under11 Gold struck a total of 84 runs. Brodie Currie top scored with 11, Emma Bednarz was not out on 5.
A great effort from a young and improving team.
