NINE hills community groups will get a one-off chance to sell second-hand goods at this month’s Gembrook Market.
The community groups will be given a free stall at this month’s market to sell new and second hand goods donated by their members and supporters.
Charlene Hoseman from the market committee said the community groups represented a number of worthy causes such as local schools, Scouts, Brownies, and heritage and parent support organisations.
“We have a good mix of local groups so the funds raised should benefit a wide range of community activities.
“We hope this initiative is going to make the difference to their fundraising efforts.
Ms Hoseman says the clearing sale would give the community groups exposure to several thousands of visitors who attend the market each month.
“Many of these community groups may not have the means to attract so many potential buyers so we hope the market’s initiative is going to make all the difference to their fundraising efforts,” she said.
“While this is a one-off event, if it is successful we may make it an annual attraction to help local community groups who make such an important contribution.”
Ms Hoseman said the July market would also be the first time that second-hand goods would be sold.
However, she said the market committee has no intention of changing its very strict policy that regular stallholders can’t sell second-hand goods.
Anyone wanting to support local community groups or pick up a bargain should not miss this month’s Gembrook Market on Sunday, 22 July, from 9am at the Puffing Billy Station, Gembrook.
