CARMEL Colborne is the new owner director of Kip McGrath Education Centres — Boronia.
“As the new owner, I am proud to have fully refurbished this centre which has a long tradition of giving children in the community of Boronia and its surrounding areas the chance of a brighter future,” said Carmel, who has 27 years’ experience as a primary school teacher of all levels prior to working in Kip McGrath.
“As a tutor in a Kip McGrath Centre I saw how the program filled a much needed gap, assisting those who struggled at school,” she said.
“When the opportunity presented to buy the Boronia Centre I took it up so that local students who needed help could continue to get that help.”
A registered teacher with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, Carmel’s qualifications include diploma of teaching, bachelor of education, post graduate diploma in student welfare and certificate in specific learning difficulties.
“At Kip McGrath Boronia, we provide professional tutorial assistance to students of all levels and capabilities from prep through to VCE,” she said.
“For prep to year 10 students we focus on the key areas of reading, spelling, English and mathematics.
“The specific, individual needs of VCE students are catered for by experienced teachers qualified in VCE level subjects including, English, psychology, health and human development, mathematics and physics.
“We believe all students can learn and succeed, given the right help and guidance.”
The centre uses the highly successful Australian program developed by Kip McGrath which is now being exported and used in more than 20 countries around the world.
Prep to year 10 students are first given a free assessment and a program is then devised to address their specific needs.
“We focus on developing students’ confidence and self belief as well as their academic capabilities in a non-threatening, fun but seriously academic atmosphere,” said Carmel.
“Sessions are broken into different activities so that new skills and learning can be reinforced in varied and interesting ways.
“Modern computers and the up-to-date, specifically written software are part of the program.
“Students attending this centre enjoy their learning and enjoy coming,” she said.
“VCE students can expect and will get first class assistance with their course and school work, working closely with their tutor on the subject of choice.
“Parents can have complete confidence that their child is being taught by qualified, registered teachers, who understand the subject, the needs of their child and will teach their child properly,” she said.
