Smith with the lot

By Dennis Fuller
EXCELLENT conditions prevailed at Emerald Golf Club last Saturday as Andy Smith (13) took to the task of scoring well at par, to rip the course apart.
His score of +9 came on the back of a 3 over par round of faultless golf as the course rating was set at 68,
Needless to say, he won overall and also left all other A Graders in his wake.
Ken Hill, (14) who played in the hottest part of the day, proved the master of the B Graders with +1, while Steve Town (23) played well enough to win over-all as a common rule, but his +5 was only good enough for C Grade.
Others that did well were Jeff Marsh, Ken Sumsion and Ian Scott on +2, Dennis Fuller +1 and Steve Miller squared up with his handicap.
The final of the matchplay championship final took place between Graeme White and Ross Martin, with Martin having to concede just one stroke.
After a titanic struggle with both golfers playing better than their handicaps decreed, White triumphed on the 17th hole.
White had a blinder by having his name, at one stage or another, on all nearest the pins. He managed to hang on to win on the 12th and the 13th but had to lower his colours to Andy Smith on the 17th and Steve Town on the 18th pro-pin.
Wednesday’s stableford competition was taken out by Leigh Morison with 48 points from Mick Petrie and Andy Smith, again, on 41.
In a putt-off for the putting gong, Mick Petrie rolled Smith on the first hole.
Next week, members will play for the foursomes championship.
