DESCRIBED as one of the most brilliant and powerful shows to be presented on the Melbourne stage, Difficult Women is coming to Knox.
This is the high esteem in which Knox Community Arts Centre coordinator Richard Mitchell holds Difficult Women, the next instalment in Knox’s Act One program.
The show combines music, song and performance to bring to life on stage some of history’s most important and controversial women artists.
Subjects of the play include artist Frida Kahlo, poet Sylvia Plath and writer Virginia Woolf – women who were labelled difficult in their day due to their willingness to go against the accepted norm for what it meant to be a female artist.
“Difficult Women reminds us of women whose passion and strength can continue to illuminate our lives today,” Mr Mitchell said.
The performance combines the acting and singing skills of Lin Van Hek with the wonderfully eclectic musical talents of Joe Dolce.
The pair have been performing and recording together for 25 years and in the process have forged a beautiful harmony and friendship.
Dolce is best known for writing, producing and performing the song Shaddap You Face, which remains the most successful single in Australian music history. Van Hek is a well respected singer, writer and previous winner of the Melbourne Age Short Story Contest.
Difficult Women will be performed at the Knox Community Arts Centre in Bayswater on Friday, 23 March at 8pm.
Tickets are $25.90 and are available at the Arts Centre or by calling 9729 7287.
Early bookings are essential as tickets are sure to be in high demand.
