EMERALD fire brigade is calling for volunteers to join the team in the lead up to the summer bush fire season.
The CFA is one of the world’s largest volunteer emergency service and community safety organisations.
The organisation is based on community involvement and gains its strength from the commitment of local people.
Emerald CFA Captain Paul Yandle said the brigade was currently looking for more volunteers who can work during the day.
He said suitable people would be anyone who lives nearby, or works in the area, such as shift workers, or trades people, or professionals who can easily be called away from their jobs at any time to attend a fire or an emergency.
Captain Yandle said there was currently 34 operational volunteers in the Emerald unit, but that there was a strong need for more daytime volunteers.
Those who join the Emerald brigade now will have to undergo a sixmonth training course before they can fight a fire.
However, those who join up will be able to help out as administrative support to the brigade during the bush fire season.
Anyone can join the CFA and those interested in joining the Emerald team should contact Captain Yandle on 0412 592 182.
