Emerald boys put up stiff resistance

THE Eastern Region Junior Tennis winter competition came to an end on a bright sunny morning earlier this month.
Emerald fielded 10 teams with five reaching the finals.
After a successful season with the boy’s section 11 finishing at the top of the ladder, a highly competitive match was in order.
In the grand final on Saturday, 2 September, the boys played against fierce competition from Guy Turner Reserve.
The matches were of a high standard with many never-ending rallies, top shots and plenty of cheering from the crowd of supporters.
Emerald finished the day proudly wearing their runner-up medallions after a very tight match.
The Guy Turner Reserve team won by a mere four games.
Meanwhile, the morning also marked the end of a long career as junior convener for life member of the Emerald Tennis Club, Neil Thornton.
Mr Thornton recently retired from the position he had held for 15 years. At a barbecue after the match parents and juniors extended their heartfelt thanks, deep respect and appreciation to Mr Thornton for the dedication he has shown over the years.
