A LOCAL Victorian company Wildfire Protection Services has invented a radiant heat and fire protective shield to help protect homes from bushfires.
Specifically for vulnerable areas on homes such as windows and doors, the shields are fixed as external blinds and pulled down or electrically deployed when there is a threat.
“Radiant heat is measured in kilowatts per square metre,” said a company spokesperson.
“This invention is able to repel extreme temperatures and direct flame impingement for a longer time than what is required to shield you in a bushfire at the height of its intensity,” he said.
Wildfire Protection Services has tested with the CSIRO and passed to the latest Australian Standard, allowing it to supply for new construction with the Building Code of Australia set to include protective covers to windows and doors for bushfire protection in the very near future.
“Existing homes can easily be fitted with these fire shields, giving everyone the chance of some extra peace of mind in a bushfire threat,” said the company.
Wildfire also market Xscape and Alusape suits for use by home owners staying to protect their homes or fire fighters trapped by bushfires giving them a final line of defence.
They also stock the Purify Air Fire Escape Hood that gives 30 minutes of breathable air in a smoke filled building, filtering carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen chloride and acrolein. “With most people dying from smoke inhalation in house fires, this adds a second dimension to your smoke alarm with one of these compact hoods in your drawer to aid your escape,” said the spokesperson.
“Applications for these suits include high rise building escapes, underground escapes such as mines and even the City Link tunnel.
“All Wildfire products are very affordable by the general public. The Aussie initiative of this company will help to save lives and homes from fire.”

The factory address is 6/69-77 Mark Anthony Drive, Dandenong.
