ALTHOUGH unlikely to figure in this year’s finals, Monbulk’s U17 cricketers had a terrific win over Upper Ferntree Gully in round 9 on Saturday.
In reply to Monbulk’s 223, the visitors were bundled out for 96. All bowled well but it was man of the match Kieran Gray who starred with 6 wickets for 21 from just 8 overs.
Batting a second time, openers Luke Moulday (18) and Brian Martin (37) made a 63-run partnership to get the Hawks to 1/69 at the close of play.
The U13/1s also won but their performance in the field did not please coach Byron Griffiths.
With only a game to go before the finals, poor bowling allowed The Basin’s batsmen to nearly chase down Monbulk’s 240. Best of the bowlers was Nick Keegan who took 3 for 30.
It was hard and hot work in the field for both the U15s and U13/2s. Upper Ferntree Gully made 4 for 232 in the U15s and Belgrave South made 235 in the U13/2s.
Michael Wolfe bowled well for the U15s and Steve Torsello took a fine catch. Emma Bednarz, Grant White and Shaun Wilson all got two wickets for the U13/2s.
Big win for Monbulk juniors
