STUDENTS from Cockatoo Montessori School enjoyed their first excursion of the year recently with a visit to Pakenham Library.
Library staff demonstrated the range of material held by the library and how it is all stored for easy access.
School principal Karen Bennetts said: “The children have been very keen to borrow books from the library as part of their work in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
“Some were also looking for additional material to support project research and others simply wanted to find out what goes on in a public library.
“This visit was part of our ongoing literacy program.
“However, we have also been inspired to make improvements in our school library, based on what we have seen today.
“It’s great that our school can work alongside other community services in this way.”
Cockatoo Montessori School is a small independent school which offers an individually negotiated program for children from preschool to the end of grade six.
It is part of the worldwide Montessori network and is supported by the Montessori Associations of Victoria and Australia.
“Although we are a small school in its third year, our children visit many exciting places. including the National Gallery of Victoria, Healesville Sanctuary, Cranbourne Botanic Gardens and the local potato farm.”
The school is having an open day on Saturday, 13 May from 10am until 2pm.
Further information may be obtained by contacting the school on 5968 1640.
