POLICE believe a 65-year-old man who died in a fire at his Boronia home, set fire to the house himself. Police were called to the blaze at 7.50am last Sunday.
The man, who lived alone in the Patrick Court house, was taken to The Alfred hospital but died a short time later.
Knox CIU’s Detective Paul Cosgrove said police did not yet know why the man started the blaze. Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

A 27-YEAR-OLD Belgrave South man was taken to hospital in a critical condition last Wednesday after he received an electric shock while stealing appliances from a takeaway shop.
Police allege the man broke into the rear of Belgrave South Take Away on Colby Drive at about 6.30am. Lilydale CIU’s Detective Senior Constable Damien Morrissey said the man had tried to cut an electrical cable and received the shock.
Police recovered a number of appliances from his nearby home, including a coffee machine and mixer. The man is now in a stable condition.
Police are yet to lay charges.
