UPWEY and Ferntree Gully Cricket Clubs have raised almost $3000 for breast cancer research.
The two teams battled it out on the cricket field at Upwey on 2 February, with every run made raising $1 for the Breast Cancer Council of Australia.
The total amount raised by the event was $2852.
“The day was a big success,” Upwey-Tecoma Cricket Club’s John Stanley said.
Off the pitch, the women involved with the clubs held a Ladies Day featuring a lunch, drinks, entertainment and a guest speaker who spoke about her experiences with breast cancer treatment.
Ferntree Gully was victorious on the day, scoring 177 runs to Upwey’s 139.
The two clubs plan to hold the event annually, alternating the location of the fundraiser in line with the fixture for the Division 1 Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association’s Knox Tavern Cup.
Stanley said the event was very well supported by local businesses and wanted to thank Upwey Garden Centre, Ray White Ferntree Gully, Upwey Cellars, Upwey Foodworks, Insurance Made Easy, Natural Garden Scapes, Henkel Australia, Topline Sports and Rawson Caravan and Resort Park for their cash contributions and donations of goods and services for raffles on the day.
