Coach calls for footy players

BELGRAVE Football Club has issued a call for junior players to join its ranks and ensure its long-term future.
Coach Bob Raaymakers said numbers at the club were causing ‘a bit of grief’, but expected them to grow as the season’s start drew closer.
But the shortage raises concerns in the short term, with players needed to cover injuries and rotation during games.
Mr Raaymakers was also mindful of the need for a depth of players to keep the senior club strong in the long term.
“I’m confident we’ll be able to field a side but we’re looking to get better numbers to be more competitive and look after our players from a development point of view.
“It’s all about developing the players and maintaining continuity for our senior club,” he said.
According to Mr Raaymakers, there was no such shortage of reasons to entice junior members to the club. “Belgrave offers a very close knit club which is very family oriented.
“We’re keen to develop our players not only to play football but we also look at life skills and the like.
“Come and enjoy playing with friends, meeting new friends and developing your skills in a very positive environment,” he said.
Anyone wishing to get involved with the Belgrave Football Club under 16 side is urged to call club secretary Jon Schill on 0407 520 343.
