FORMER Sri Lankan cricketer Dulip Samaraweera has finished his season with the Ferntree Gully and District Cricket Association on a high taking home the Knox Tavern Cup batting trophy for 2006.
Samaraweera scored a season average of 83 runs per match, which even topped his batting average with Sri Lanka which was 15.07 with his highest score 42 runs.
In Round eight, Samarawerra set a new FTGDCA record making 235 run not out in the Johnson Park game against Knoxfield.
Samaraweera came to the wicket at the end of the first over of the day and never looked back hitting 27 fours and five sixes.
Finishing the day with 235 runs Samaraweera surpassed the previous record set by Ferntree Gully star Andrew Downs in 1992-93.
Meanwhile at the other end of the pitch Darren Hill from Rowville took home the Knox Tavern bowling trophy for 2006 with an average 8.73 runs scored during his bowling spells.
This comes on the back of the Rowville Hawks taking home the premiership cup in March which saw Hill continue his season winning form of five wickets for 51 runs off 22 overs, combined with his 25 runs.
Proving his form as an all rounder, Monbulk’s Jason Fraser took home the Decoite Shield for both batting and bowling.
Fraser scored this triumph with a batting average of 60.22 runs per match and 9.93 runs scored against him in his bowling spells. Meanwhile in the junior league, Ben Robertson from Eildon Park won the batting trophy and Jarrod Butcher taking out the bowling prize.
