KILSYTH Cobras are excited about the return of one of its favourite sons, Gerard ‘Gezza’ Leonard for the 2008 SEABL season.
After a stint with both Knox and Southern Districts, Gezza, has returned home to his junior club.
This powerhouse has averaged 14 points, three rebounds and two assists per game in his 189-game SEABL career.
Gezza is returning to his home team after spending several years with rival clubs and a season in the NBL playing with the Melbourne Tigers.
After making the commitment to return home, Gezza will be looking to again make an impact in the SEABL and use some of the experience he has gained to improve the Cobras.
“I am excited about the opportunity to return to my junior club, the club has come along in leaps and bounds the last few years – it’s great to see,” Gezza said.
“After a couple of seasons in differing roles I am looking to have a career best year, and hopefully help the team go one step closer to a premiership.”
Coach Grant Wallace said he was pleased with the first signing for the 2008 season and was proud to be again fostering local talent by continuing with the club’s polity of having only three non-Kilsyth juniors.
“We are pleased to see Gerard returning home. I have been working him out over the last few weeks and there is a no doubt he will be a welcome addition to our backcourt and provide a scoring punch this season,” he said.
