MONBULK men’s soccer team moved into second spot, on the Provisional League 1SE ladder on Saturday, with a convincing 2-0 win against Monash University.
In an evenly contested first half, either side could have taken the lead with several close shaves going agonisingly close.
In the second half Monbulk stepped up a gear and took control of the game.
As the pressure mounted on Monash they finally cracked as goals came from Daine Adams and Brecham Adams (penalty).
The young reserves continued their run of good form this season with a goal from Sam O’Loughlin giving them a 1-0 win.
In the ladies event, Monbulk maintained top position in the State League 2SE on Sunday, with a 3-0 win over Monash University.
A goal from Sally Williams midway through the second half confirmed Monbulk’s dominance, but despite several more chances it wasn’t until late in the second half that Monbulk finally put the result beyond doubt with another goal from Williams.
A third goal from Mia Kirkham just before the final whistle gave a score more representative of the match as Monbulk continued its unbeaten run for the season.
