HILLS people can experience a day of fun and entertainment in Emerald on Australia Day.
The Gemco Players group is hosting an Australia Day concert extravaganza in the theatre grounds, at 19 Kilvington Drive, Emerald.
Organiser Tim O’Leary said the day would have something for everyone.
“You can spend the whole day here and enjoy all the different varieties of music and other performers,” he said.
The day of fun and entertainment will start at noon. Market stalls will give people the opportunity to check out some of the local merchandise on offer.
Two outdoor stages will be set up for the live entertainment, which starts at 12.30pm and will run well into the night.
More than 20 performers and bands including Bossa Nation, Orphic Mystery, Something Obscure and The Fuglies will perform during the concert.
An open stage will also be running from 2pm, with various acts performed during the day.
The Gemco Improvisation Troop (Gempro) will also put on two plays to keep the audience entertained.
The event is fully licensed and alcohol will be available from stalls, but visitors are not allowed to bring their own alcohol.
An auction and raffle will be held at 4pm when people can bid on an array of items that have been donated by local businesses.
Entry to the event is $10 and children under the age of eight are free.
All proceeds from the concert will go towards the building of the new Emerald Community Performing Arts Centre.
Gemco Players is raising money for its contribution to the redevelopment of its theatre after receiving funding from the Shire of Cardinia and State and Federal Governments.
In November the State and Federal Governments pledged $640,000 towards the $900,000 redevelopment.
Mr O’Leary said Gemco Players’ contribution to the project is $54,000. It has raised $32,000, it still has a further $22,000 to raise.
He said the Australia Day bash would go a long way towards raising the money needed for the redevelopment.
Hills people are invited to attend the concert to support the redevelopment project and enjoy a day of fun and excitement.
