THE hills will be alive with the sound of music again this year with the Dandenong Ranges Music Council (DRMC) offering musicians some great programs.
As well as the old time favourite choirs, big bands, orchestras and junior strings, there will also be a number of percussion ensembles groups this year.
Songwriting and composer meetings and workshops for the frail and elderly will also available.
The country music sessions will continue again this year on the first Sunday of the month.
DRMC chairman Norma Durrand said the council was excited about hosting the Robert Exiner Recorder Celebration for adults and children.
“The recorder is a very accessible instrument which is sometimes undervalued,” she said.
“But we aim to offer workshops to schools and community musicians with local guest musicians and teachers.”
A planning meeting will be held next month to kick-start the recorder project.
The popular Youth Music Connection program will also return this year.
Hills musicians wanting to learn more about Celtic harps can also join harpist Jaquie Springs’ workshops at Upwey High school later this month.
DRMC is also proud to announce the start of a concert band for over 50s.
Beginners who play woodwind, brass or percussion instruments are welcome to join the band.
Adults who have played before and wish to join are also welcome.
Musical director Brian Hogg said he was really looking forward to launching the new band.
Those who are interested in taking part in one of the music programs should call the DRMC on 9754 2105.
