SKATERS from all over Melbourne descended upon Upwey Skate Park last week for a school holiday expression session hosted by the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Freed from the shackles of the classroom, an enthusiastic throng of young skaters traded tricks and aerials on a sunny Tuesday afternoon.
There were 21 competitors in the Under 13, U16 and Open divisions.
Young Jake Carpenter set the early standard with an impressive victory in the U13 division, before Teddy Lack upped the ante to take out the U16 title.
In the Open division, the high standard of skating forced the six competitors to go for broke in a bid to impress the judges.
Ultimately, it was Chris Glase that came out on top.
The event was part of the July holiday program put together by the shire’s Youth Services department.
More information on upcoming events – including rock climbing, hip hop dance classes and go karting – is available at www.yrys.com, or by calling 9294 6716.
