The Manor is reborn

WARMWARM

THE much anticipated launch of Belgrave Manor Restaurant (formerly Jorgies) has taken place as the venue opened its doors last month.
Also referred to as ‘Montsalvat’s sister’, the Manor boasts historic links to the famous Eltham landmark.
One of Belgrave’s best kept secrets, the classic old building is ready to explode onto the Dandenongs culinary scene.
After spending the past 10 years in Melbourne under award winning chefs Michael Lambie and most recently Paul Wilson of The Botanical in South Yarra, the Manor owner/ chef Hugh Watson is celebrating a return to his childhood roots.
“I’m just so excited about this project,” said Hugh.
“I’ve spent the last two and a half years searching for the right venue to open the new restaurant and for all this to finally come together and to be able to offer it in Belgrave is absolutely fantastic,” he said.
The freshest and best of local and interstate ingredients all come together superbly in taste and texture to form the cornerstone of Belgrave Manor’s modern Australian cuisine.
It could be a simple but exquisitely tasting confit duck leg in a duck broth with Asian flavours, or a more refined roasted pheasant with braised cabbage and Madeira sauce.
To finish off proceedings, who can’t go past the old favourite bread and butter pudding.
This particular recipe has been handed down in Hugh’s family from his great, great grandmother.
With a deft and contemporary approach, Belgrave Manor food complements the classic dining room and surrounding parklike gardens. Whether it be by the cosy open fire to warm you through the cold winter months, or an alfresco breakfast in summer on the 70yearold stone corbelled terrace, or a sumptuous Devonshire tea, Belgrave Manor offers an exceptional dining experience at very reasonable prices. With two private dining rooms and a wedding chapel, Belgrave Manor suits anything from that romantic dinner for two to catering on your wedding day.
Open Wednesday to Friday from 11am and for breakfast at 8am on weekends, the Manor is the new goto venue in the Dandenongs for foodies and families alike.
Savour the elegant, oldworld surroundings of Belgrave Manor for yourself at 1627 Burwood Highway, Belgrave.
