HILLS fillies are being called to help raise money for cancer research.
The Hearts of the Hills group is getting into the spirit of the spring racing carnival by hosting an Oaks Day luncheon.
The group was formed 14 years ago after two close friends died of cancer.
Each year the Hearts of the Hills hosts a gala Gown of the Year ball to raise money for the Cancer Council Victoria.
The group’s Margaret Campion said the aim this year was to raise $10,000 for the Cancer Council – and it was halfway to achieving that.
Ms Campion said $6500 was raised this year through the Gown of the Year ball and the group hoped to reach its goal with the inaugural Oaks Day luncheon.
“Raising money for cancer research is something close to all our hearts,” she said.
“I don’t think there would be a person who hasn’t been touched by cancer in some way.”
Hills ladies are invited to join in the fun of Oaks Day on Thursday, 9 November from 11.30am, at the Marybrooke Reception Centre in Sherbrooke.
Champagne, a three-course lunch and a fashion parade will be just some of the highlights of the day. The cost is $40 a person.
