MONBULK beat league leaders Brandon Park 2-1 at home on Saturday to consolidate third spot on the State League 3 SE ladder.
In a thrilling and evenly matched contest, both sides fought hard to take the points, but it was Monbulk who took the lead early in the first half with a fine headed goal from Andy Cowie.
Brandon Park hit back with a penalty just before half time and the scene was set for an exciting second half.
The crowd was not disappointed and the chances came at both ends as both sides battled to get on top.
As the game drew to a close it looked as though both teams would share the points, but in the dying seconds Quenten Wells slammed the winner home with a cracking shot from just inside the box.
The Reserves drew 1-1 in another close contest thanks to a penalty from Jeremy Desfrey.
Monbulk’s next home game is on Saturday, 4 August, against Monash University. Check www.monbulk.net for details.
