A AND A Worm Farm Waste Systems has harnessed Mother Nature.
The system uses worms to do what they were put on this earth for — process waste and fertilise the soil.
Just like on the rainforest floor where they process all the leaf litter, seeds and animal waste, they are used in the Worm Farm Waste Systems to process sewage, waste water and organic garbage.
The worms process the solids converting them into worm castings.
When the worm castings are mixed with the waste water it results in the perfect liquid fertiliser for the garden.
From humble beginnings where the company solved waste solutions for domestic sites, Worm Farm Waste Systems, 11 years on, is now designing and installing systems for new or existing dwellings, sheds, schools, caravan parks, camping grounds, restaurants, retail outlets, animal waste, alpine ski lodges and housing developments.
The company has installed large worm farm waste systems at two oil refinery sites where canteen food waste for 1600 employees was leaving the site for disposal in landfill. This waste is now kept onsite, processed in the worm farm waste system and re-used as liquid fertiliser for the surrounding gardens.
Large scale projects include a thoroughbred stud farm producing up to five tons of animal waste, grass cuttings from training tracks and all other organic garbage generated on the site.
The system for the stud is 20 metres by 10 metres.
The lid is designed to roll back allowing a front end loader to dispose of the horse waste directly into the system.
Waste water from the horse spa and wash down areas is also processed in the system.
Company management said that the end result will be 100 per cent reduction of animal waste stockpiled in paddocks whereby the natural liquid fertiliser from the worm farm waste system is sprayed back onto the pastures, eliminating the need for future chemical superphosphate applications.
The company is also about to install a pilot program in India.
“The site will be exposed to the Government of India with the view to solving waste problems in that country,” said a company spokesperson.
A and A Worm Farm Waste Systems is Australian owned.
The national head office and manufacturing facility is based in Hastings where the company employs local people and sources its components locally.
Their systems are manufactured in Hastings and shipped all over Australia.
