FINDING the perfect pie is about more than the gold crunch of the pastry, it’s about that and a whole lot more.
Monbulk’s gourmet pie maker Northby’s Bakery knows just what the judges are looking for.
The bakery last week took out a silver and bronze medal in the 2008 Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition.
At Northby’s, creating a pie is all about the flavour sensation.
Owner and baker Tim Northby said the competition was a great way to be recognised by the industry.
More than 4000 pies were judged last week, with Northby’s winning bronze for its roast lamb and rosemary and silver for its traditional meat pie. Northby’s now has a 28-medal haul from the Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition from the past six years.
Mr Northby said he would continue to enter the competition.
He said it was a great chance for his staff to create new and interesting pies and have them judged against the best in the country.
