VACANT block owners are warned to maintain their land, or risk fire taking hold.
Knox Council’s local laws co-ordinator Elke Tapley said maintenance was crucial with summer approaching.
“One spark and the long grass of a vacant block can go up in an instant, jeopardising neighbouring properties and businesses,” she said.
Knox Council has issued vacant block owners with courtesy notices and will inspect properties throughout November.
Ms Tapley said owners who failed to comply risked a bill for contractors to complete lawn, overhanging tree, shrub and weed maintenance for them.
