Police totarget deviant driving

By Tania Martin
HILLS motorists have been put on notice following a Yarra Ranges crackdown on irresponsible driving.
Police will be out in full force from now until Christmas in an attempt to reduce road trauma and fatalities.
A number of operations will be held over the next six weeks.
Covert operations targeting speeding, drink driving and irresponsible driving will also be undertaken.
Acting Sergeant Ian Whitehall of the Yarra Ranges Traffic Management Unit said alcohol and speed were the two biggest road crash issues in the hills. Recent operations results indicated that people were continuing to take their lives into their own hands.
The latest crackdown follows a recent operation that netted 22 unlicensed drivers; numerous motorists were clocked at more than 30 kilometres over the prescribed limit.
“This type of behaviour is unacceptable and these high-visibility operations will continue to reinforce that message,” Sgt Whitehall said.
Motorists are warned a zero tolerance will be taken on the roads.
