Vandal rampage

By Tania Martin
POLICE are hunting a band of graffiti vandals following a seven-day rampage.
Police suspect a group of locals caused the damage and are calling for help to identify them.
Emerald Acting Sergeant Frank Bodor said the vandalism was a disgrace.
The rampage began on Tuesday last week when black texta was used to put graffiti on the Emerald Community Centre.
In the following six days, Cockatoo Primary School, the town’s seniors’ club and the scout hall all became targets.
The newly finished Cockatoo mural was also vandalised just a week after it was officially opened.
Acting Sergeant Bodor said the damage was appalling, and urged witnesses to come forward.
He said that anyone who could identify any of the following graffiti tags – stroke, sand, edge, tmg, tonik, armed, dkaer, hsx, clb, trust, leadher, turk, dk or hst – should come forward.
Police are also hunting a group of youths who allegedly tore apart a section of wooden fence at the Gembrook Skate Park before setting it alight.
Acting Sergeant Bodor said the incident happened last Friday night. He said two windows of a toilet block were also broken.
Three youths were spotted running from the scene.
Anyone with information should contact Emerald police on 5968 4422.
