Focusing a lens on life

– Tania Martin
CAPTURING life through the lens has become second nature for Julie Bird and Sandy Berthelsen.
The pair is preparing their latest photography exhibition which is set to take the hills by storm.
They first met 10 years ago when they joined the Knox Photographic Group.
Ms Bird reached her mid-fifties before she discovered a passion for photography.
“I was surprised and delighted I had the knack for taking photos,” she said.
In the 10 years since, Ms Bird has won numerous local and international awards. Ms Bird and Sandy Berthelsen worked together at Billanook College for years but it wasn’t until they both retired that they discovered their passion.
“We enjoy the challenge of discovering unusual objects and interesting places to photograph,” Ms Bird said. “My camera is my constant companion.”
The pair’s latest exhibition, titled Celebrate the Moment, will go on show at Round About Thyme, 74 Monbulk Road, Kallista, on Saturday.
More than 50 pieces of work will be on display at the gallery including photographs and greeting cards.
The pair will also be available to talk to the public on Saturday, 14 December from 2pm to 4pm.
Celebrate the Moment will be on display until 4 February.
