A MT Evelyn baby is in a stable condition in hospital, following a three-car pile-up last week.
Jayden Frazer, 23-months was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital last Tuesday night in a critical condition.
He was suffering from suspected head and spinal injuries.
A hospital spokeswoman said Jayden was now in a stable condition and was improving every day.
The accident happened shortly after 7.20pm on Tuesday, 2 December on Monbulk Road, near Mt Evelyn.
Police said a northbound car clipped a southbound vehicle, which then collided with a pole.
The northbound car then collided with a third vehicle heading south.
Amanda Korver, 25, the driver of the northbound car, sustained minor injuries while her son Jayden was treated for head and spinal injuries.
The driver of the first southbound car, a woman in her twenties, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with leg injuries and a male passenger, 18 was treated at Maroondah Hospital and was later released.
An ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the scene of the three-car collision.
Four people were treated at the scene.
The spokeswoman said the toddler was stabilised before being airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
Ms Korver was treated at Maroondah Hospital and released.
Police later arrested Ms Korver on a number of driving charges from her sick son’s hospital bed.
She appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 3 December charged with six offences including negligently causing serious injury, drink driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Ms Korver’s boyfriend Michael Di Palma, 22, also appeared in court last Wednesday facing one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The pair has been bailed to appear in March.
