Hungry for help

By Tania Martin
HELP is needed to feed hungry fire fighters and emergency services this summer.
The Dandenong Ranges Feeding Group is urgently calling for help.
Sarah Krumins of Sassafras-Ferny Creek CFA said helping out during a bush fire doesn’t necessarily mean fighting a blaze.
She said it could be as simple as providing food and drinks for emergency services.
The feeding group which has been running for more than 12 years is made up of 15 brigade auxiliaries and residents.
Ms Krumins said it’s about people banding together to provide refreshments to fire fighters in the event of a major incident.
But she said a lot of the volunteers are getting older or working off the mountain.
“Our numbers are dropping because people can’t allocate time to do these things,” Ms Krumins said.
“Some brigade auxiliary numbers have dropped so much that CFA members are sometimes attending fires or car accidents without food or drink for hours on end.”
The group provides sandwiches, salads, drinks, sausages and more to fire fighters all year round.
Ms Krumins said the service was not just in the summer but also winter months.
The group is not just calling for women but men are also welcome.
Those wanting to join the group in helping to feed emergency services this summer can call Ms Krumins on .
