HILLS residents can get a free one-off green waste collection in a bid to fire-proof their properties.
People can either book a collection or take their green waste to the recycling facility in Pakenham until 13 March.
Those wanting to access this service should call the council on 1300 787 624 to book a collection or request a free tip voucher.
Cardinia Shire mayor Bill Pearson said the recent bushfires had prompted many to take a close look at their homes and how they could be better prepared for a fire, including reducing fuel.
