School upgrade finally opened

By Casey Neill
UPWEY Primary School students now sidestep opponents instead of potholes on their rejuvenated sports court.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood opened the court and a resurfaced teachers’ car park on Wednesday 18 February.
The previous Federal Government gave the school $50,000 for the upgrades from its Investing in Our Schools program.
Principal Malcolm Aspinall said the asphalt areas were badly in need of an overhaul.
“The car park was pretty ordinary. It was quite dangerous for staff,” he said.
An old, leaking water pipe underneath the sport court made the surface unsafe for students and racked up a costly repair bill.
“The surface would cave as the water took out the soil. The asphalt would just sink,” Mr Aspinall said.
The school completed the upgrades early last year.
