KNOX children’s services are crying out for volunteers.
Ferntree Gully’s Illoura Early Childhood Intervention Service was among preschools and other kids’ groups that issued a plea for help last month.
Marlene Theobald has volunteered at Illoura for the past three years.
“I just love working with the little kids,” she said. “Since retiring I was looking for something to do.”
Ms Theobald spends two and a half hours playing with siblings of children with disabilities each week.
Julie Macs’ son Jarrod, 5, has attended the support service for children with disabilities for the past three years.
Her daughter Angelina participates in the sibling program.
“It’s great socially for her,” Ms Macs said. “And she learns a lot of things Jarrod learns so she’s getting a head start.”
Volunteer roles range from working with children directly to administration.
Knox mayor David Cooper said the council would provide volunteers with training, registration with Knox Community Volunteers and help to obtain police and Working With Children checks.
Anyone who would like to volunteer at Illoura can call Rosslyn on 9758 7991.
