Games in the pink for women

By Tania Martin
IT will be about more than just the footy or who could bring home the four points when Emerald takes on Yarra Junction in next Saturday’s round-five clash.
A pink game-ball for both the football and netball matches will be the talking point of the weekend’s play.
The round has been dubbed Pink Footy Day as a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
The Emerald clash is just one of 120 games on the weekend to support the network.
All cash raised from ball sales and other activities will go towards BCNA to ensure women diagnosed with cancer and their families receive the best treatment and care possible.
Pink Footy Day ambassador, Olympian and breast cancer survivor, Raylene Boyle is calling on fans to extend their loyalty beyond the football field.
“Support the women who are often the ones behind the scenes helping to run the club,” she said. The seniors’ match will be played at Emerald’s Chandler Reserve, Belgrave-Gembrook Road, from 2.10pm.
The netball girls will take to the court at Emerald Secondary College from 12.30pm.
The Emerald Football and Netball Club are now calling for locals to support the day by getting into the Pink Spirit.
Other pink games this weekend include the match between Belgrave and Powelltown, Gembrook-Cockatoo and Mt Evelyn, Monbulk will take on Wandin, Upwey-Tecoma versus Warburton-Millgrove and Woori Yallock will take on Silvan.
In the juniors, Yarra Glen will take on Olinda-Ferny Creek in a pink round 5 clash on Sunday.
