Long on fun

THOUSANDS of people braved a chilly hills evening to mark the winter solstice in Belgrave last Saturday, 20 June.
The third annual Belgrave Community Arts Partnership Lantern Parade celebrated the year’s shortest day.
A 3000-strong crowd turned out to enjoy music, circus performers, workshops, singing and the main event – a colourful parade through Belgrave’s main street. Burrinja chief executive and event promoter Ross Farnell was thrilled with the turnout.
“It was bigger, brighter and better. It was great to see the community coming out and celebrating,” he said.
“People take real ownership of the town for that hour and a half and it makes a really good feeling.”
