Final farewell

By Casey Neill
BURRINJA is calling for help to create an out-of-this-world demolition.
The gallery’s multi-purpose room will in early November make way for its new 400-seat theatre and upgrade.
Demolition 2009 AD: A Space Odyssey will give the area a unique send off.
Burrinja invites the hills community to dress up and pay tribute to astronauts and aliens on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November.
Participants are expected to get creative with cardboard spaceships and planets, sound effects, amateur documentaries and much more.
At exactly 3.10pm on Sunday they will have just six minutes to demolish the creations and run amok in a final farewell.
“Over the years, this popular space has been used for many varied and colourful community arts activities,” Burrinja visual arts co-ordinator Tilla Buden said.
“This project aims to celebrate this space with one last creative hurrah.” The gallery is calling for musicians, sound, video and visual artists, poets, performers and community members to participate.
It needs people to donate acrylic household paint, textas, paint brushes, rollers and pallets, cardboard, egg cartons, plastic bottles, craft odds and ends and old dress up clothes.
Burrinja is located at 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey.
