EMERALD Community House is moving into the fast lane when it comes to providing educational opportunities that help people get a job.
“We’ve got our own economic stimulus package, right here in our short course program to benefit hills residents,” house co-ordinator Mary Farrow said.
ECH will from 6 May for the first time offer a course in Adobe InDesign – the professional standard in desktop publishing – to equip students with the digital communication and creativity skills needed for today’s publishing workforce for just $80.
“This course would cost hundreds of dollars elsewhere plus we are saving everyone a trip down the hill,” Ms Farrow said.
The house will also from 20 May offer Certificate IV in Training and Assessment which is essential for people who want to deliver training and assess learning outcomes for industry or a registered training organisation.
Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) starts at ECH on 12 May.
“On top of that, we are offering great lifestyle and wellbeing courses for taking time out just for you, including African drumming, heritage fruit trees, Chinese tea appreciation and healing properties, cheese, wine and cider and quilt making, watercolour art for kids, intermediate guitar for adults and photographic digital imaging,” Ms Farrow said. ECH is also providing workshops for home sustainability, antenatal classes and a children with allergies group.
