Flexible class- Sam, Angus, Michelle, MP James Merlino, Jess and Principal Bob Shepherd in the

STUDENTS at Sherbrooke Community School have been enjoying their new flexible learning centre.
Thirty-five year nine and 10 students have been using the high-tech classroom since it was completed in February.
The classroom has an amphitheatre where students can sit and listen to presentations, look at images or films on a projector and have class discussions.
It also has a large space for desks and chairs, which can be utilised as one classroom, or separated into two, with soundproof retractable walls.
Year nine and 10 co-ordinator Davey Heller said he felt very privileged to have his students in the new room, “It’s practically perfect,” he said.
Mr Heller said his students were in portable classrooms before, which were not ideal for positive learning.
“Students would focus in on themselves or their friend’s groups in the old classrooms, but this is easier to direct their attention where it should be,” he said.
Mr Heller said the students, who also have two new computer hubs and 17 laptops, are enjoying the novelty of wireless networking and note taking with laptops.
Monbulk MP James Merlino officially opened the classroom last Wednesday.
Mr Merlino helped the school secure $500,000 from the State Government for the new building.
He said the combination of a physical space mixed with the new technology was an asset for students to enjoy.
The school will also receive $1.2 million for new classrooms from the Federal Government, and an additional $75,000 for refurbishment projects under the Building the Education revolution program.
