MT Dandenong’s youngest rising stars took to the stage recently in a theatrical performance about a fish.
The four-year-olds in their Oscar winning performances chose their own costumes – and invented the dialogue.
The Mt Dandenong Presch-ool students have formed a dramatic society, where they act out stories they have been reading at school.
The 26 March play was inspired by the book Rainbow Fish Discovers the Deep Sea by Marcus Pfister.
Preschool director Jo Gaissl said the plays helped the children develop a range of skills as they were encouraged to make decisions rather than being told what to do.
“They improvise all the way through, whether it’s creating scenery, using what they already have in the kindergarten, or deciding which character they’d like to be and what that character will say,” she said.
The students sold tickets to the show to their parents.
Following the play, lunch was delivered by the Montrose Fish and Chippery and was sold by the children at their own Yummy Fish and Chip Shop.
All proceeds from ticket sales and lunch were donated to Kallista wildlife carer Carol Seeger.
The preschool has raised more than $600 for wildlife since the Black Saturday fires.
It is now preparing for its May major fundraiser, the Chestnut Festival.
