A HATCHLING Macclesfield chook business is bound to send feathers flying.
Asling Poultry opened just over a week ago and is a real family affair.
“I started this business so the kids could get involved and they are very keen,” owner Rosanne Asling said.
“We had quite a few people come and buy as well as look, so that was encouraging for all the effort the kids had gone to.”
“The kids” are Levi, 15, Kalijah, 13, 11-year-old Kiowa and their little sister Shaniah, 8. “The boys have helped scrub sheds and bag chook manure and get everything ready for the new venture and they are really looking forward to being part of this,” Ms Asling said.
She always had chooks as a child and as an adult has continued to pursue her love for the bird.
Her family first came to the Dandenong Ranges in the early 1800s.
“That’s about as local as you can get,” she said.
Asling Poultry sells chicken pellets, feeders, waterers and dry chook manure.
They have a range of chook breeds including isa brown – “great egg layers” – and silkys, “the fluffy cute ones that make fantastic pets”.
The chooks are laying now.
Asling Poultry is located at 1A Cherry Road, Macclesfield, and can be contacted on 0457 460 818.
The store is open 10am to 5pm on weekends and weekdays by appointment.
