A WANDIN North man was trapped in his car for half an hour after crashing into a tree in Mount Evelyn last Friday.
The 25-year-old was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition after losing control of his car on Hunter Road, near Monbulk Road, shortly before 4pm.
Senior Constable Andrew Sanos from the State Highway Patrol’s Special Solo Unit said the man was driving towards Monbulk Road when he lost control of his car, left the road, drove down an embankment and hit a tree, causing extensive damage to his car.
A woman travelling in the opposite direction witnessed the crash and called an ambulance.
Intensive care paramedic Michael Gadsden said they arrived to find the man trapped by his legs.
“The man lost consciousness for a brief period and suffered right upper abdominal pain and facial injuries including a suspected fractured jaw,” he said.
Mr Gadsden said paramedics administered pain relief while the Mount Evelyn, Silvan and Wandin Rescue CFA crews cut off the car’s roof.
They freed the driver just after 4.30pm.
“Once he was removed we fitted him with a neck brace in case of a spinal injury,” he said.
The road ambulance transported him to an air ambulance waiting at Wandin North Recreation Reserve.
The driver remained in a stable condition in The Alfred hospital when the Mail went to print.
