YARRA Ranges Optical has been proudly serving the people of the hills for the past decade.
Owner Murray Nagle graduated in optometry from the University of New South Wales in 1979.
He began his career with Gibb and Beeman in Sydney where the emphasis was on old-fashioned, friendly service.
“The old timers made sure all the new graduates were taken under their wings and trained to ensure quality workmanship and attention to detail,” Mr Nagle said.
Yarra Ranges Optical’s attention to detail also filters through to the consulting room. Mr Nagle’s experience ensures that his patients receive the highest standard of care.
In 2000, he was one of the first optometrists in Australia to undertake therapeutic training.
It has allowed him to treat a wide range of common conditions such as conjunctivitis, inflammation and eye injuries.
The consulting room is equipped with a retinal camera and field testing to allow for thorough monitoring of patients with more complex problems such as glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration.
Mr Nagle is ably assisted by Emma Colquhoun, a UK-trained optometrist, who has also just completed her therapeutics training.
Emma’s calm friendly nature allows her to take special care of the practice’s younger patients.
Yarra Ranges Optical also hosts visiting ophthalmologist Dr Michael Slade who provides specialist services including surgery and the management of eye disease.
Mr Nagle and his wife Kerry – as independent owners – are able to source fashionable and affordable frames from a number of different suppliers.
Many of Mr Nagle’s patients have told him nobody can make their glasses fit as comfortably as he can.
Yarra Ranges Optical, at 69 Main Street, Monbulk, is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5.30pm and Saturday from 9am to noon.
Call 9756 6626 for an appointment. Eye examinations are bulk billed and health fund rebates are available on the spot.
