TECOMA residents are busting to spend a penny and they have been told some relief may be on the way.
The Tecoma Village Action Group (TVAG) held a workshop at Tecoma Primary School recently to discuss a range of issues affecting the town.
The shire had previously investigated the possibility of building a public toilet in Tecoma but nothing came of it.
However, the workshop showed the issue had not disappeared from locals’ minds.
“I know the public has been keen for many years to get one,” Lyster Ward councillor Samantha Dunn said.
Cr Dunn, who attended the workshop on Sunday 18 July, said a lack of public land on which to put toilet facilities was the problem. But she also said the council would look into the issue once more. “It’s worth reinvestigating. I’m certainly willing to look at it again,” she said.
Other discussion involved rejuvenating roadsides in the town centre, and unreliable public transport.
TVAG plans to lobby Yarra Ranges Council to rejuvenate roadsides within the town centre with new landscaping and meeting points to improve its overall appearance.
Cr Dunn said one of her favourite ideas from the workshop was to paint power poles with Tecoma-themed designs.
Workshop participants said it would provide Tecoma with a much needed identifiable feature and set it apart from nearby towns.
Unreliable local bus services and the size of current buses navigating the area were also raised
