VICTORIAN Opera director Richard Gill has hit a high note with hills school kids.
Mr Gill recently visited Kallista, Monbulk, Upper Ferntree Gully, The Patch, and Upwey primary schools.
He and opera chorus members conducted 90-minute workshops to introduce children to classical music and opera.
“It is important that the music in the workshops is challenging and different to that experienced by the students in their daily lives in order to extend their understanding of music,” Mr Gill said.
The workshops were born from the Dandenong Ranges Music Council’s 2009 Children’s Choral Festival project which helped 10 schools create songs to perform.
