EVERYONE is invited to come along to the official opening of the Gembrook Community Shop.
They’ll celebrate the establishment of the local business incubator, which has brought together numerous local arts and crafts producers who now sell their work from a shopfront in Gembrook.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato has leased the shop at her own expense to give local people the opportunity to sell their craft – paintings, ceramics, woodwork, jewellery, furniture etc – to locals and tourists.
All income from goods sold goes directly to the producers with no commission charges.
“This head start for people allows them to start receiving income before outgoings are required and prepares the community business to ultimately become self sufficient thereby in time not requiring my assistance,” Ms Lobato said.
The shop is being staffed by the producers and sometimes Ms Lobato and her office team staff the shop and conduct mobile offices.
Opening hours are from 11am to 4pm Thursday to Sunday with extended trading hours from September school holidays onwards.
Next door is another new business, The Gourmet Garage which provides fabulous coffee and gourmet food.
Both businesses are working closely together and looking forward to their joint opening.
“Some people have asked me why I am doing this, and the answer is simple,” Ms Lobato said.
“I love this area and with the closure of other shops I believe Gembrook needs some assistance to ensure that local producers are supported and tourists are delighted by what they find when they visit charming Gembrook.”
Join Ms Lobato on Gembrook Market Day, 26 September, at 2pm to open Gembrook’s new attractions.
