SELBY students danced up a storm at a recent competition to claim a coveted trophy ahead of six other schools.
The Grade 5 and 6 dancers took part in the Dancefair Victoria interschool dance contest at Fairhills High School earlier this year.
“All of the children looked great in their stunning, co-ordinated costumes with their hair styled and bright stage make-up on,” teacher Lynne Westaway said.
“The children danced superbly and the result was fantastic.”
Selby Primary School was the overall winner in both the Grade 5 and Grade 6 competitions, taking home the trophy ahead of six other schools.
One dancer, Brooke, said she was nervous until she took tothe stage.
“I felt good. It made me happy when I danced,” she said.
Another, Chelsea, said there were many Selby supporters in the crowd.
“I went on stage wanting to have fun no matter what happened, but I really wanted to win, too,” she said.
She said she was overwhelmed with congratulations when the winners were announced.
“Mum was there waiting to ambush me with the camera and take like 100 pictures,” she said.
“That was one of the best memories in my life.”
Brianna said she had the best time preparing costumes and choreography.
“Everyone put in 100 per cent and danced their hearts out,” she said.
“It felt awesome when you walked on stage and everyone would cheer for you.”
In the Grade 6 competition, Gemma (Bresnahan), Gemma (Sorrell), Keren and Emily won first place in the teams section.
Kara Marshall took out second in the solos and teamed up with Gemma Bresnahan to win the duos category.
Kara, Rachel, Eliza, Jade, Lara, Pippa, Gemma (Sorrell) and Emily placed second in the Grade 5 and 6 troupe section.
In the Grade 5 comp, Brianna, Isabella, Chelsea, Samantha, Bonnie and Brooke won first place in the team section and Shelby, Kayla and Christian won second place in the team section.
Shaniah won first place in the solo section and joined with Mia to win first place in the duo section.
