VANDALS have destroyed eight Mount Evelyn bus stops just weeks after they were installed.
Billanook Ward councillor Tim Heenan said the vandals smashed impact resistant glass panes in stops on both sides of Swansea Road between the Glenvale School and York on Lilydale.
“Someone must have had a field day,” he said.
Cr Heenan believes the carnage took place on Saturday night.
“Even in a car, you’re talking about at least an hour’s work,” he said.
“I feel sorry for the school kids and people going to work.
“It’s just such a bloody inconvenience.”
Many of the shelters were only three weeks old. Cr Heenan said the council had lobbied the State Government for 18 months to have the bus stops installed.
“I’m just so angry,” he said. “I don’t know what to say.”
He has asked shire officers to contact the shelter company to hurry along repairs.
Police are investigating the incident. Call Detective Ross Hill at Yarra Ranges CIU on 9739 2401 with any information.
