Premier’s camp promise

THE State Government has announced a further $77.4 million investment for its Education for Life program, bringing the total commitment so far to more than $285 million.
Premier John Brumby announced the most recent investment to the government’s Year 9 Experience at Halls Outdoor Recreation’s Stringybark Lodge camp in Gembrook only a day after his initial $208.2 million promise.
The government announced the $77.4 million to build new camping and accommodation facilities across Victoria and expand existing ones. “We are determined to change the way we teach our young people, to equip them for the challenges of the future,” Mr Brumby said.
“By transforming the way we deliver Year 9 education, we will be able to unlock the great potential in our young people and equip them with skills for the future.”
The centrepiece of Labor’s Year 9 Experience will be a two-week camp where students will develop new skills and strong bonds with their classmates.
